Hornby Island Eagles
Here is a link to one of the most interesting internet sites/sights I’ve ever seen–the Hornby Island Eagles. Hornby Island is a small, remote island between Vancouver Island and the B.C. mainland.
These eagles are fascinating. They take turns warming the eggs. We’ve seen both in the nest at the same time, but the one relieved usually takes right off to get some food. The new nester usually pokes the eggs, turns them a bit, and then settles in for a shift. The sound gives live eagles squaks, shrieks, and whatnot, and you can hear other birds, lawn mowers, the wind, etc. At times the nest has really rocked in the wind even though it is in a very large tree. The nest is in a small area of houses, but everthing on the island is close to the water.
